SCCF believes that:
- Action on Climate Change is critical and potentially has many additional benefits. SCCF aims to identify and address the challenges of climate change using a pragmatic approach. By working in partnership with governmetns, businesses, NGOs and citizens, SCCF endeavours to combine greenhouse gas emission reductions with adaptation to climate change and sustainable development. SCCF commits to implement projects that ahve defined and measurable objectives that demonstrate good practice, and which encourage others to follow.
SCCF's roots:
- SCCF is a not-for-profit foundation, established to fill the gap betwen charitable assistance and corporate projects within the climate change space. Businesses reject low margin investment; charities are not equipped to act commercially.
- SCCF is in a unique position as a climate change foundation because it was initiated and is endowed by Sindicatum Carbon Capital Ltd. ("SCC"), a leading project finance company active in the emissions abatement and clean energy markets. This background has helped them to develop a pragmatic and commercially-savvy approach to their activities around the world.
How SCCF works:
- SCCF aims to exert leverage - for every £1 donated they will ensure a greater sum is spent on the ground. This will be achieved by demonstrating good practice and persuading third parties to scale projects - either because they are profitable or because they are an effective course of action.
- SCCF will work in partnership with governments, businesses, NGOs and citizens.
- SCCF will build capacity wherever possible to ensure a sustainable and long-term response to climate change.
- SCCF are results-driven and will properly assess their activities so that they can learn from everything they do.
SCCF's plan:
- To reduce GHG emissions in developing countries as well as alleviate suffering via adaptation and/or sustainable development initiatives.
- To fund education at post-graduate level; taking skilled engineers in developing countries and providing them with the expertise to become directly involved in sustainability, clean energy and related industriesTo create partnerships through which pro bono climate change expertise can be delivered to organizations in need.
